Air Hogs Link - Getting Started

You will need:

  • 1 x Air Hogs Link (batteries already preinstalled)
  • 1 x Compatible Air Hogs Helicopter (not included with Air Hogs Link)
  • 1 x Compatible Smart Device (not included with Air Hogs Link)

Activate the batteries. Pull and remove the clear plastic battery tab out on the side of your Air Hogs Link using your fingers. This will allow the batteries to make a complete connection and power on your Air Hogs Link.

Download the Air Hogs Link App. Download the Air Hogs Link application to your device by searching your device App Store with the following term: "Air Hogs Link".

Check the frequency. Take a look on the underside of your compatible Helicopter and it should say either ‘Ch-A’, ‘Ch-B’, or ‘Ch-C’. Now make sure the band (channel) selector on the application is set to the same channel. You can click the "Gear" icon to change this.

Setting up your Device. Plug in the Air Hogs Link into your device headphone jack. Make sure your device volume is set to max and turn off "Silent Mode" and any sound enhancement settings. To avoid any interruptions, it is recommended that you also turn on "Airplane Mode".

Charge your helicopter. Charge your compatible Air Hog helicopter as shown in the instructions that should have came with your Helicopter.

Check your environment. The Air Hogs Link is for indoor use only, so before flying, make sure you are indoors, away from any other Infrared devices, bright lights, air vents or open windows.

Turn the helicopter on and point the device and application at the toy. Have fun.

general info

Where can I fly my helicopter using my Air Hogs Link?

Your helicopter is designed to be flown indoors only, so do not fly it outside! The room you are in should have lots of space to fly with no breakable objects.

Try to avoid direct sunlight or other IR (infrared) devices. The IR signal between the Link and the heli will not work well near sunlight so you may lose connection and crash. It’s also a really small helicopter - it doesn’t take much to knock the little guy off course! Turn off any ceiling fans and stay away from any other air vents.

Follow these tips and you will be an expert pilot in no time!

How far can my helicopter fly using the Air Hogs Link?

The signal is good for around 20-30 feet. This should be plenty of distance for most indoor areas you will be flying your helicopter!

Can I fly more than one helicopter at a time using my Air Hogs Link?

Depending on which helicopter you are using with your Air Hogs Link, you can fly up to 3 helicopters together at any one time; just make sure you have 3 helicopters in 3 separate frequencies – either A, B or C. The frequency will be printed on the front of the box in the lower right hand corner and on the underside of the helicopter.

Make sure that your app is set in the correct channel, too! Once you select your helicopter, you will get 6 small boxes on the right. The middle left-hand button says CH. Tap on that one to reflect your helicopter’s channel- A, B or C!

How long will my helicopter fly for using my Air Hogs Link?

The flight time for your helicopter will change depending on which helicopter you are using with your Air Hogs Link.

The flight time will also vary depending on where you’re flying it, the skill of the pilot and how much throttle you give the helicopter!

It will also depend on the brand of batteries you are using in the charger (if this is a helicopter that has a charger that requires batteries, such as the Heli Replay).

troubleshooting & repair

The helicopter I'm using with my Air Hogs Link keeps spinning. What do I do?

If your helicopter is spinning in circles, the first thing you’re going to want to do is check all your rotors to see if there is any hair or debris caught in that area. Even just one little piece of hair can make your helicopter spin out of control!

Carefully remove the tail rotor also with your rotor removal tool and take out anything which could get in the way of the tail rotor spinning.

Now try and fly your helicopter. If it’s still spinning, the next step would be to “trim” your helicopter.
See the little triangle buttons near your controls on your Air Hogs Link application? These will help you get your helicopter to stop spinning.

Setting the Trim:

  1. Figure out which direction your helicopter is spinning. Are you spinning to the left (counter-clockwise) or to the right (clockwise)?
  2. Make sure your Air Hogs Link is pointed at the helicopter for the best possible response.
  3. Give your helicopter a bit of throttle and get it up in the air. Start trimming in the opposite direction of the spin.
    • If your helicopter is spinning to the right (clockwise), tap the left triangle trim button.
    • Same thing goes for the other way around. If your helicopter is spinning to the left (counter-clockwise), tap on the right triangle trim button.

The trim might need to be fixed after charging the helicopter and it will definitely need to be adjusted after crashes!

Sometimes you’ll need to tap the trim button only 5 times or so, and sometimes you’ll need to tap the trim button up to 50 times. Try trimming it just a little bit. If it seems like it’s working, but it’s not quite there yet, tap it a few times more. It’ll even out eventually, so be patient!

If your helicopter starts to spin the other way after trimming, you may have over-trimmed! If this happens, all you need to do is trim it in the opposite direction.

Troubleshooting
If you’ve trimmed your helicopter and it is still spinning in circles, check for the following:

Signal Interference: Fly indoors. Sunlight and other strong light sources may interfere with the signal from the remote to the helicopter, so try and stay away from these. Make sure you are also not flying around other R/C products that might be sharing the same channel/frequency/bandwidth.
Batteries: For trimming to work, your helicopter needs to be fully charged. Make sure you are using brand new, premium, non-rechargeable batteries.

If your helicopter is still spinning, give our Customer Care Team a call at 1-800-622-8339 and they’ll love to help out!
